If MacHeist offered more bundle promotions like this more often then I think it would be a problem. Besides the developers involved can still make money of the customers of this promotion in upgrade pricing for new versions of their software.

I did not know of MacHeist until a few days ago and when I looked at it and the price I really did think “well most of these apps must not be of much value and I would never purchase them individually in the future since they were selling for a few dollars”. Whether that is true or not that is the thought that I had. I did have more respect for TextMate though.. since you will not get v2.0 of TextMate for free with this offer.

You might think that doing something particular will hurt the sales and then see a huge spike immediately after that “bad” thing happens. As an independent developer, would I participate in something like MacHeist? No fucking way! Do I think MacHeist is hurting those developers that participate? Perhaps. Does it affect the whole independent mac software scene? Not likely, I don’t think so. But then, again, I am not a marketing guru. We shall wait and see.
